Choices

Every day we make choices. Research suggests that the average person makes an eye-popping 35,000 choices per day. Assuming that most people spend around seven hours per day sleeping and thus blissfully choice-free, that makes roughly 2,000 decisions per hour or one decision every two seconds.

Most choices are habitual, and made subconsciously, but many choices are made deliberately. The power of choice was given to us by our Creator. But it's one thing to have freedom of choice, it's another to know what to do with that freedom. The Lord has given us the ability to make good choices, if we use our brain.

The frontal lobe gives us the ability to choose. It makes up 3.5% of the brain in a cat, 7% in a dog, 17% in chimps, and between 33% to 38% in human beings. The frontal lobe is where our judgment, reasoning, emotional intelligence, and long-term planning takes place. The Lord has given us the gift to discern and make choices wisely.

When it comes to our health, our choices can strengthen our bodies, or weaken it. As we continue our new sermon series - Building a Better You - it begins with making better health choices. And making better choices comes from partnering with the One who promises to bring us the abundant life!

In John 10:10, Christ says, "I have come that you may have life!" The Greek word for "life" in this passage is ZOE, which is understood to mean, "life as God has it." The Lord longs to give you His life - abundant health in this life and eternal life with Jesus in the next! When it comes to our health, the first choice is Jesus!
