“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”  Galatians 5:1 NASB

This week we celebrate our national independence from oppressive government.  Sometimes I think we are so far removed from the events and reasons for our need for a Declaration of Independence and a journey to freedom that we no longer know what or why things happened. I am coming to realize that for far too many, there is a complete ignorance that is frightening in its effects and implications.  

As Seventh-day Adventist Christians, we have long understood the implications of prophecy (e.g., Rev. 13) that our nation would one day leave behind the principles of government, constitution, and become exactly like the old world persecuting model of the church and the state working together (with the church dominating and controlling the state). 

Are we there yet? No.  But there are signs everywhere that this is where we are headed.  Remember what Jesus said, “Keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”  (Luke 21:36).
