Precious Light

Hopefully you have not been one of the hundreds of thousands of homes affected by PG&E’s power shut off this week. The largest pre-emptive power outage ever in the history of California is affecting both northern and central California to help decrease the risk of fire.

When the announcement was first made earlier this week, only a few hours were afforded to prepare. Gas lines formed, ice bags were sold out, with people doing their best to get ready. What made the threat even more daunting was its initial predicted length of up to five days. Five days without power is a long time!

It’s amazing how much we use electricity. In our digital age, we are dependent upon it for virtually everything. Without power, we cannot go to school, work, or even cook in our modern kitchens. Without electricity, we lose connection with each other and the outside world. When outages come, we are left to grapple in the darkness with limited light.

The same is true spiritually. Without a daily fresh supply of Jesus, we begin to go dim. Go five days without Jesus, and we are grappling in the darkness. Jesus is the power and we need Him to see clearly each and every day. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” In this world of chaos, it’s refreshing to know that every day Jesus offers us a ‘lamp to our feet.’

Daily invite Jesus to guide your life by bringing Him into every decision and problem. Then by faith remember His promise found in John 12:46: “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should remain in darkness.”

Blessings!
