He Is Risen!

He Is Risen!

One of the greatest experiences of my life was traveling to the Holy Land several years ago.

One of my favorite and most memorable experiences on that trip was visiting The Garden Tomb. Although this is one site where Jesus is believed to have been laid, the fact that I was anywhere near where Jesus was laid after His crucifixion, where the stone was rolled away, and where Jesus was raised was enough for me. Before going into the tomb, we had communion in the garden area, the most worshipful experience I had ever had.

An overwhelming feeling struck me as I entered the tomb, which was only the size of a very small room. Tears filled my eyes and started running down both my cheeks. As I took in every moment, a thought came to me, which turned into a prayer. The prayer was a prayer of thanksgiving for what He had done for me. The most beautiful and powerful realization came over me. The tomb was empty, reminding me that Christ conquered death and has risen.

I am reminded of these words in this praise song:

“Death could not hold You
The veil tore before You
You silenced the boast of sin and grave
The Heavens are roaring
The praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again
You have no rival
You have no equal
Now and forever God You reign
Yours is the Kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name above all names.”

As I left the tomb, a sign hanging over the door read, “He is not here—for He is risen!” Friends, as we remember this Holy Week, may we never forget that our Lord has risen!

"He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay."
