Milestones

Tis the season for graduations! Whether it be preschool, kindergarten, 8th grade, high school, college, or graduate school, you likely know someone who is marching down the aisle with a cap and gown. My niece Emma graduates from high school this weekend, but it seems like only yesterday when she was a precious toddler. Graduations not only mark an academic achievement, but also remind us that life is passing by, and we are all growing older.

Earlier this week, during my time with Jesus, I came across a scripture in Jeremiah 1. It is the Lord speaking to Jeremiah the prophet and it says: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; and before you were born I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to nations.” And Jeremiah replied, “Ah, Lord God! Truly, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” To which God replied, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth.’ For you shall go everywhere that I send you . . .”

It struck me that for every graduate, the Lord knew them in their mother’s womb, and He also knew you and me as well. Not only that, but before we were even born, God had plans for us. Obviously, not many are called to be a prophet like Jeremiah, but God has plans for everyone, and it begins in our youth!

As you reflect upon your past graduations, and the trajectory of your life since your youth, do you believe you are living the life God had in mind for you? As life is passing by, and milestones continue, vigilantly invite Jesus to make your purpose all that He intends it to be.
