Brain Health

The most amazing organ in your body is the brain. Even though it is only 2 percent of your body's weight, it uses 20 to 30 percent of the calories you consume. It has 100 billion nerve cells and more connections in it than there are stars in the universe.

We are as healthy as our brain. When it works right, we work right. When our brain is in trouble, we are more likely to have trouble. A healthy brain means greater happiness and better decision making. But a brain that is not healthy likely leads to sickness, sadness, and a lack of success.

So how healthy is your brain? We may never give it a second thought, since we cannot see it. As we age, we see our wrinkles, changing hairline, and reduced muscle tone. But when it comes to our mind, we may not recognize a progressively diminished performance. A poor memory, impulsiveness, short attention span, depression, obesity, low energy, and persistent sleep challenges are some signs our brain may not be very healthy.

Henry Ford once said, "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young."

Next Sabbath we continue our series, Building a Better You, addressing what Jesus and the Bible teaches about brain health. Hope to see you this Sabbath!

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous--how well I know it. Psalms 139:14
