Discoveryland Preschool

Perhaps you’ve heard the news . . . due to COVID-19, Sweet Tomatoes, the all-you-can-eat buffet right down the street from our church, is closing its doors. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic continues to afflict not only human beings, but businesses, causing many to downsize or completely close their doors.

With that backdrop, I am sad to report our very own Discoveryland Preschool, open since 1980, serving families in our community for some four decades, has been forced to close due to the pandemic. The decision was made after two-and-half months of temporary closure during shelter in place. An effort to reopen the preschool in May and June only generated scant interest. Much of the $85,000 reserve has been consumed in financially supporting the employees during the temporary closure. With the reserves virtually depleted, the school operating committee unanimously voted to close the preschool.

The state of California allows a preschool to retain its operating license for up to six months after closure. The preschool operating committee will look at the feasibility of reopening in the future, should customer demand merit such a consideration. But for now, the preschool will remain closed until further notice.

I want to thanks those who have faithfully served as employees of the preschool, making it a work of ministry. No doubt the seeds of Jesus have been planted in the hearts of children. Only in heaven will we truly know the harvest. I ask for your prayers for the Lord’s will for the future.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
