Gift Love

Gift Love

When I was in the third grade, my father needed a new shovel. His had broken after many years of use in the backyard, but he was too busy to buy a new one. So the thought came, purchase one for him for Christmas. I saved 25 cents here, a dollar there, and after a few months, had the money in hand to purchase the new shovel.

My mother helped me wrap it up, practically taking an entire roll of wrapping paper along the way, my mind convinced he would never guess what it was. When Christmas morning arrived I was eager to open my gifts, but I distinctly remember the feeling of greater joy as my father opened up his from me. I don't remember what he said, but I'll never forget his smiling face and what I felt. As the Bible says: It is truly more blessed to give than to receive.

This Christmas season, when it comes to all the preparations, parties, and people, may we not lose sight of the joy of giving. Tis the season to show extra thoughtfulness in little ways, with cards, invitations, and even gifts. It is a time to bring joy by giving in special ways that tell your friend or family member, you love them. It's also a time to be extra mindful of sharing with those in need.

Most importantly, Christmas is a time to remember the greatest gift for humanity. For God so loved the world that He gave His Son. May the love of Jesus imbue you with joy so you are daily inspired to gift love in little ways for those in your life.

Blessings!

Pastor Mitch
