Christmas Witness

“Do you know the real reason for Christmas?” I asked him. He
answered somewhat sarcastically, but with a smile, “You mean it’s not
about Santa Claus?” Such exchanges were common for us as we developed a
friendship over the past several months. Greg is the contractor who has
been working with our church bathroom lobby renovation.
As
I got to know Greg, it became apparent that he didn’t belong to a
church and wasn’t sure if he even believed in God. But our many
conversations to led to some God moments, sharing Bible truth, and
telling my testimony about Jesus.
Earlier this
week I asked him what Christmas was really about. He said he knew it was
about Jesus, but wasn’t sure how Jesus was selected out of all of the
people of the world to be the hero of Christmas. I clarified that Jesus
was actually God who came to this earth as an infant to show His
creation how much He loved them. Mary and Joseph were simply Jesus’
surrogate parents.
I explained that Christmas
is a special holiday that prompts the question of what we truly believe.
Do you believe Jesus came to this earth as God to save humanity? Or do
you believe Jesus is a legend like St. Nick and that’s as far as it
goes? Greg said he had something to think about. He admitted that
something was happening in his life to get him thinking about the
possibility of God. My prayers are for Greg and others who turn to
Jesus. I invited him to church and he promised he would come.
In
a year as dire as 2020, and in the season of Christmas, what better
time than now to share in your circle the hope of Jesus born in
Bethlehem!
Now
when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told
them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at
those things which were told them by the shepherds. Luke 2:17-18
Blessings!
