The Election

There was a time in America when proper etiquette espoused never to speak about two things: politics and religion.

However today, when it comes to the presidential election, have you noticed that many are not afraid to share their thoughts about it? Social media posts, texts, tweets, phone calls, or even face-to-face conversations are composed of political discourse formerly believed taboo. Spouses, family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even strangers are not shying away from the hot topic of politics.

On November 3, our nation will consummate an election considered by many to be the most important in our lifetime. And at the end of the day, we have just two choices. But with all the uncertainty and apprehension afforded to the presidential election, one thing is for certain, God is in control!

As we pray for the best election outcome for our nation, let’s all take comfort in the promise found in Daniel 2:21. It reads: He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. (NLT).

That’s a promise that we must cling to as Christians, particularly during such politically divisive times as these. If the USA elects Joe Biden, it does not mean the Lord is a Democrat. And if our nation reelects Donald Trump, it does not mean God condones everything he says and does. Whoever is elected simply means that God, in His infinite wisdom, has declared that this is to be the preeminent leader for such a time as this. In these last days of earth’s history, we take comfort in our belief that the Lord Jesus is in control of all things, even an election.

Indeed, we live in a time when people boldly share their perspectives on politics. As Christians in a tumultuous 2020, may we have the same boldness to share our perspective about and faith in our Lord and Savior.
