A Heart For Service

This Sabbath, August 22, as we gather to worship, we’ll witness, reflect, and celebrate service, the kind that happens wherever God calls us to say yes. It’s found in the ordinary places of daily life, in homes and workplaces, in classrooms and sanctuaries, and in quiet acts of care that reveal Christ’s love.
We’ll dedicate our Pleasant Hill Adventist Academy teachers, men and women who pour faith into learning and shape our children’s lives. We’ll also ordain new elders, lay leaders stepping forward to serve with humility and courage. These commitments are examples of the life of service we’re all invited to live. Two different callings share one heartbeat, a heartbeat that begins with surrender.
This Sabbath reminds us that ministry isn’t limited to titles or roles. Ministry happens in the everyday: in kindness offered, burdens lifted, prayers whispered, and hands extended. It’s the quiet “yes” that moves faith from words to action.
Brother Andrew once prayed, “Whenever, wherever, however You want me, I’ll go… Lord, as I stand up from this place… will You consider this a step toward complete obedience to You? I’ll call it the step of yes.” (God’s Smuggler, with John and Elizabeth Sherrill, p. 186)
May this Sabbath inspire each of us to take that step, to live with a heart of obedient service and a drive for action wherever God leads next.
