Headlines and Prophecy

“Wars and rumors of wars.” These were the very words Jesus used to describe the world leading up to the end of time. As conflict spreads across the Middle East and tensions rise among nations, His warning feels strikingly relevant today. When we look at the headlines, it is difficult not to sense that we are witnessing the very kind of signs Jesus said would appear before His return.
As Christians, we are encouraged to be aware of the times and to recognize the nearness of Christ’s return. Yet for many who have been part of the church for most of their lives, it can be easy to grow somewhat apathetic, even numb, to the idea. We may quietly wonder, “Will Jesus really come in my lifetime?”
But Jesus urged His followers to pay attention and recognize when the time is near.
He reminded us that His return would be like the days of Noah. People were going about their daily lives—eating, drinking, marrying, celebrating—as though the world would continue forever. Then the first drops of rain began to fall, and suddenly everything changed. The flood came, and the world was swept away unexpectedly. Jesus said His coming would be much the same, with the world caught off guard.
So the question is not merely whether the signs are appearing. The deeper question is this: Are we ready?
This Sabbath we will explore what it means to recognize the signs and to live in readiness. We are living in uncertain times, but as believers we possess an unshakable hope. Our hope does not come from this world. Our hope is in Jesus, and His return may be sooner than we think.
