Investing in the Next Generation

Many of us remember the TV game show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” It was always eye-opening—and a little humbling—to watch confident adults stumble over questions most elementary students could answer. The show reminded us of an important truth: knowledge, curiosity, and insight are not limited by age. Sometimes, we underestimate just how much our young people already know and how capable they truly are.

We see that same truth is on full display right here in our own church family. Our Pleasant Hill Adventist Academy fifth and sixth graders are bright, resourceful, and eager to serve—and this Sabbath, they will be leading our worship service. This special Sabbath is more than a typical worship service. It’s an opportunity to invest in, encourage, and celebrate the next generation of servants for the Lord. As they read Scripture, share music, pray and participate in worship, we are reminded that God delights in using young hearts and voices to glorify Him.

It’s also a moment for us as a church to come alongside them with prayer, affirmation, and support. When we empower our children today, we are shaping the leaders, teachers, and faithful witnesses for tomorrow. And yes, your pastor will still be preaching—doing his very best to prove he’s at least as smart as a fifth grader!

This Sabbath everyone is welcome to join our usual church potluck. Look forward to seeing you as we worship our Lord and Savior!
