The Most Important Goal!

As a parent, what is the most important goal for raising your child? Is it their academic foundation? No doubt, we certainly want our child to have the academic prowess to attend and graduate from college in order to serve in a professional career. But is that the most important goal of a Christian parent? How about their social skills? Everyone can appreciate a child who grows up to have strong EQ intelligence. Being skilled in the art of loving and working with people is crucial to success in any field. But, is it the most important goal for raising a child? Or would we say that a child’s academic success and social development are second to the most important goal – namely their spiritual health and maturity?
The Bible says in Mark 8:36, “What do you really benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul.” Or let’s translate the verse like this: “What do you benefit a child if when they grow up they gain a professional degree, lucrative job and positional status yet they are lost because they don’t have an interest in Jesus?”
This Sabbath, we celebrate two more students who will be baptized, both who currently attend Pleasant Hill Adventist Academy. These students, though they are building a strong academic foundation and developing social skills, are putting their walk with Jesus first! Please come and witness the baptism of Mariam Carmona and Amber Mitchell. These high school ladies will be baptized by Pastor Miguel, who has spent time with them in Bible study. Mariam will be baptized during the 11:15 AM worship service, and Amber at 1:00 PM, directly after the service. Everyone is invited to attend both baptisms! After the baptism, a special spread of light refreshments will be served in the courtyard to extend the celebration!
Parents, as you raise your child, never forget the most important goal – to train up a child to know and love Jesus! Everything else is secondary!
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6
