Why Adventist Education Matters

It’s one thing to talk about Adventist education from a distance; it’s another to live it. I’ve walked the journey—from first grade to college—within our Adventist school system. That experience anchored my faith. Even in seasons when I wrestled and wandered, the foundation laid by those early school years quietly held me.
Now, serving as Board Chair at Pleasant Hill Adventist Academy (PHAA) and parenting a child in the same system, the question of “Why Adventist education?” feels more urgent—and more personal—than ever. I’m more convinced than ever that what we plant in our children’s hearts today takes root in their faith tomorrow.
Adventist education is discipleship in motion. Our students don’t just learn about Jesus—they learn with Him at the center of everything. At PHAA, our mission is to show children Jesus, nurture their love for Him and others, teach them to think, and empower them to serve. This isn’t just a statement—it’s how we live, teach, and lead.
“Adventist education is discipleship in motion… not just preparing our children for college—we’re preparing them for the kingdom.” Ted Wilson, GC President
In a world full of distractions and shifting values, Adventist education offers something profoundly countercultural: an identity grounded in grace, guided by the Holy Spirit, obedient to biblical truth, and shaped by a longing to see Jesus soon. I share this not only as a leader but also as a parent, praying that my child experiences the beauty and blessings of being part of this community.
When we invest in this kind of education, we’re building more than academic excellence—we’re investing in eternity.
