War Zone

Earlier this week I received a text from a good friend. It’s the
kind of text you never want to receive. He informed me that a mutual
friend named Joe was hit by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle
and was instantly killed. His wife Martha, who was riding with him, was
in critical condition and her leg had to be amputated.
15
years ago, my wife Lena and I had met this dynamic couple and became
friends with their family. We hung out, did Small Group together, and
eventually did Bible studies, which led to their baptism. Joe was such a
warm and friendly guy, a former police officer, and leaves behind three
children.
As I reflect upon
his loss, I am reminded that we live in a war zone. Fear, sickness,
suffering and even death seem so prevalent. In today’s world, how easy
it is to become discouraged, jaded, and without joy.
But
what if we lived each day as if it were our last? Would we have fewer
disagreements? Would we serve more readily? Would we give more
monetarily? Would we love people more tangibly? Would we obey our Lord
more willingly?
Life is not
easy. But Jesus added that although in this life we would face many
battles, to not lose hope or a joyful spirit, because He has won the
war! (John 16:33).
Friend,
whatever battle or loss you are going through, remember that Jesus has
overcome this world and He is closer to you than a brother. Therefore,
as long as we have breath in our lungs, may we praise Him!
I will praise the LORD as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath. Psalms 146:2
Blessings!
