Bread that Speaks

In a world filled with strife and divisiveness, the church offers
us peace and unity. As Christians, we have the opportunity to escape the
chaos of this world and instead experience the stability of the church.
The church is indeed the body of Christ. So when we gather together,
each Sabbath, we experience more of the power and wonder of Jesus than
if we were alone.
This
Sabbath, we experience the power of Jesus in an extra special way
through the ritual of communion. The Apostle Paul writes,
“The cup of
blessing that we give thanks for, is it not a sharing in the blood of
Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of
Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for
all of us share that one bread.” 1 Cor 10:16-17
On
Sabbath each one of us will eat a piece of the communion bread, broken
into many pieces from one loaf of bread. All the believers who
participate in communion are united in Jesus whose broken body is
illustrated in the broken bread. By all of us physically coming together
this Sabbath, we demonstrate that we are one in Christ and belong to
one great family, whose head is Christ.
The
most exciting thing about communion is Jesus promises to be there!
Jesus will energize us, minister to us, and bless us by His presence and
His promises.
In a world
that is falling apart, growing darker, and morally spiraling downward,
communion with Jesus at His table will sustain us in these strange times
in which we live. At the communion table, Jesus reminds us that He will
take us out of this world by His amazing grace and incredible
forgiveness of sins. What could be a better celebration than eating
bread that speaks! See you this Sabbath!
