LORD, HELP!

LORD, HELP!

There is a saying in Spanish that states, “If you want to make it into heaven, you must learn to speak the language of heaven, which is Spanish.” Quite frankly, I am a little partial to this statement for obvious reasons. The Spanish Bible translation does a very good job of getting to the root of the original languages of Hebrew and Greek.

There is a passage of Scripture that I have been holding particularly close to my heart over the last month. The verse is Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Although this passage is full of rich meaning, for the sake of time, I want to focus on three words: “Call to me!” In Spanish, they are translated “Clama a mi!” As I further researched these words, I understood their literal meaning. These words are used countless times in the Old Testament when the people called upon God with the literal meaning to cry out or to implore for aid.

The preacher Charles Spurgeon stated best, “The best style of prayer is that which cannot be called anything else but a cry.” Wow! This means that the essence of true prayer that touches God is a cry—imploring for aid! I believe that God invites us to do just that: cry out! Clama a mi! Implore for aid!

Friends … God is not a disconnected God! He says continually through the centuries, “I’ll help you, I really will. When you don’t know where to turn, then turn to Me. When you’re ready to throw up your hands—throw them up to Me. I’ll come and help you.”

I love these words from Moses as he comes down from Mount Sinai and gives this farewell address: “What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to Him?” (Deuteronomy 4:7).

The other nations may have had better chariots, weaponry, and war strategy, but that wouldn’t matter. Why? Because they didn’t have what Israel had: a God who would respond when they would cry out to Him.

Maybe today you need to cry out to Him, to implore for aid. Maybe today, you need to throw your hands up in the air, or maybe you even feel like throwing in the towel; that's ok because we have a God that hears our cry, and He answers.
