Nick Vujicic was born without arms or legs. His rare disorder, tetra-amelia syndrome, completely caught his new parents off guard. His parents had prayed for a healthy baby throughout the pregnancy, but now they were overwhelmed with what to do.

As the new mother gazed upon her limbless baby, she grew angry and bitter, and therefore did not hold him for the first four months of his life. But Nick’s father, a pastor, looked at his new son with a different attitude. He told his wife, “The baby is beautiful. It’s okay. God will help us. The baby was not born by mistake.”

In an interview, Nick said that it was his father, right from the start, who gave him consistent support, encouragement, and hope. His father’s positive view of the beauty of the deformed baby transformed that event into a blessing for the world and his family.

Today, Nick Vujicic is a Christian motivational speaker who gives hope and courage to people around the world. It all began with a father who chose to see the positive in a tough situation.

Winston Churchill once said, “Pessimists find difficulties in every opportunity, and optimists find opportunities in every difficulty.”

Are you facing any difficulties in your life? What is your attitude and response? May we give our response to the Lord and face trials with the knowledge that God is going to work it out for His honor and glory, and for our good purpose.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
